What is the best foot care routine?

Our feet are one of our most used body parts. How often do you give them the TLC they crave? You don’t need to get weekly pedicures to take good care of your feet, but there are certain things you can do to care for your feet and avoid injury and pain. Here is the list:

Here are some tips on how to care for your feet properly.

  1. Wash your feet regularly and don’t forget to wash between your toes! If you are unable to bend over enough in the shower, use a long-handled brush or sit on a chair. After your bath or shower, make sure to dry your feet completely or you could become victim to fungal infections.
  2. After you dry your feet, moisturize with your favorite lotion. If the weather is very dry or your feet are starting to become calloused and cracked, use a heavy-duty cream lotion and apply several times a day.
  3. Don’t wear the same shoes every single day and never wear shoes that hurt your feet. Change your socks or tights once a day and let shoes air dry before wearing if they get wet. If you have trouble finding comfortable shoes, get fitted for an insole or arch support.
  4. Use a pumice stone or foot file to smooth out rough skin and calluses. First, soak your feet for about 10-15 minutes in warm, soapy water. Then gently use the pumice stone or foot file to remove any dead skin and calluses. Make sure to moisturize well afterward.
  5. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen on your feet! If you’ve ever had a sunburn on your feet, you know how painful it can be.
  6. Lastly, treat your feet! Get a pedicure every once in a while, but make sure the salon is clean. Dirty salons can lead to infections. If you’d rather do a pedicure yourself at home, make a night of it. Soak your feet, exfoliate them, push back your cuticles and trim your nails and paint your toenails a fun color. Don’t forget to moisturize!
